Pentair 17th Minnesota company on S&P 500 index

Golden Valley-based Pentair Inc., which is expected to complete a merger with a division of Tyco International Ltd. on Friday, has been added to the S&P 500 Index. Pentair (NYSE: PNR) replaces DeVry Inc. (NYSE: DV) on the list.

Golden Valley-based Pentair Inc., which is expected to complete a merger with a division of Tyco International Ltd. on Friday, has been added to the S&P 500 Index, the Business Journal notes. Pentair (NYSE: PNR) replaces DeVry Inc. (NYSE: DV) on the list.

On the bright side, there are 13 lakes that were cleaned up enough to come off the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's semi-annual list of polluted waterways. On the other hand, more than 500 rivers and lakes were added to that list. There are now more than 3,600 bodies of water that are too polluted for fishing or swimming.

List of 'World's Most Innovative Companies' includes two in Minnesota

Forbes magazine has once again recognized St. Paul-based Ecolab and Golden Valley-based General Mills on this year's list of the “The World’s Most Innovative Companies." Ecolab ranks No. 31 and General Mills is 50th out of 100 global companies. Both Minnesota-based firms were on the magazine's 2011 list.

7 Minn. companies among America's fastest-growing

Six companies based in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth made Inc. magazine's 2012 list of America's 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies, the Business Journal writes. A company in Plymouth was the highest ranking Minnesota company -- cracking the top 75. Last year, eight Minnesota firms were featured on the list.
