Shareholders of Switzerland-based Tyco International have approved a breakup of the company. The deal will merge its flow-control unit with Minnesota-based Pentair, the Business Journal reports. The merged company will continue to be based in Golden Valley and publicly-traded under Pentair’s symbol in the U.S.

Honeywell to acquire Swiss-based energy controls firm for $130M

New Jersey-based Honeywell International Inc. has reached a deal to buy Saia Burgess Controls for $130 million, the Star Tribune reports. The Swiss-based company makes programmable heating and cooling controls for commercial buildings. It will become part of Honeywell’s Environmental and Combustion Controls business, which is based in Golden Valley.

General Mills profit rises on Yoplait, snack food acquisitions

Golden Valley-based General Mills Inc. says that its fiscal first-quarter profit went up 35 percent, with acquisitions lifting sales, the Associated Press reports. The results in the latest quarter were aided by the food maker's purchase of a controlling stake in Yoplait International and Food Should Taste Good, a natural snack foods company.

The results beat Wall Street predictions, but Arctic Cat issued lower-than-expected profit and sales predictions for the current fiscal year.

Hormel Foods 3Q net income soars 13%

Strong sales of Spam and Jennie-O products helped the Austin-based meat producer meet Wall Street expectations. Hormel's third quarter earnings rose to $111.2 million, or 41 cents per share, in the third quarter ended on July 29 compared to $98.5 million, or 36 cents per share, a year earlier.
