Pepin Heights issues advisory on Honeycrisp cider

Pepin Heights Orchards and Minnesota agriculture officials are telling people to discard any containers of Honeycrisp cider with a "use by" date of Feb. 9, 2012 after tests turned up high levels of a mycotoxin. No illnesses have been reported.

Advisory alert issued for Hoffman's turkey jerky

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and Hoffman Town & Country Meat Market of Detroit Lakes have issued a consumer advisory for whole-muscle turkey jerky after state investigators linked the product to four cases of illness caused by salmonella bacteria. One of the four lives in the Twin Cities metro area, and three in outstate Minnesota. One was hospitalized, but all have recovered.

Tomato grower issues recall in Minn., other states over salmonella threat

A recall notice has been issued by a grower in Iowa for tomatoes distributed in stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. The grower says the one pint containers of Menno Beachy Certified Organic Grape Tomatoes, dated between July 26 and Aug. 6, should be discarded or returned to stores. No sicknesses have been reported.

Salmonella advisory issued for fresh cilantro in Minn., Wis.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is telling consumers not to eat fresh cilantro sold at about 75 stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin because of potential salmonella contamination. The department said routine testing found a sample of the product to be contaminated with the microorganism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal illness in young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems.

Subaru, Honda recall vehicles because of brake issues

Honda is recalling 126,000 motorcycles from model years 2001 to 2012, and Subaru is recalling 32,000 Legacy, Outback and Impreza models from 2012. Honda reports two fires related to the brake issue on its motorcycles. Subaru reports no crashes or injuries.

Inver Grove Heights company recalls cantaloupe

Cut Fruit Express Inc. of Inver Grove Heights says it is voluntarily recalling fruit packages that contain cantaloupe that has been recalled by supplier DFI Marketing Inc., due to potential salmonella contamination, the Associated Press reports. The company says it is a precaution and no illnesses have been reported.
