Polar bear back on display at St. Paul's Como Zoo
Berlin the polar bear is back on exhibit at St. Paul's Como Zoo after undergoing major surgery last month, KARE 11 reports. Berlin was moved to the Como Zoo after major flooding at the Lake Superior Zoo in the Duluth area in June.
She continues to recover after undergoing abdominal exploratory surgery at the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Medical Center. "It is highly unlikely that she would have survived without surgical intervention," said Jose Mendez, D.V.M.
WCCO reports Berlin will celebrate her 23rd birthday next month.
Meanwhile, the Lake Superior Zoo announced preliminary plans are under way for a new project called Bear Territory, including a polar bear exhibit that could house Berlin, the Duluth News Tribune reports.
