What's happening?

Police say a University of Minnesota student and a woman were targeted by a robber in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The student says the juvenile suspect approached and grabbed her cellphone at 120:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a "timely warning" issued by the U on Monday.

When she tried to grab it back they got into a scuffle that left her with minor injuries.

The mugger also tried to grab the purse from a second woman at the scene, but had no success.

Apparently, the same suspect was involved in another mugging attempt a half hour earlier, around midnight on Sunday.

Where did it happen?

The attempts against the student and woman happened on the U of M campus at University Avenue SE and 15th Avenue SE.

The earlier attempt happened at 15th Avenue SE and 8th Street SE.

Description of the suspect

The suspect was described as a black, male juvenile, about 5'6" inches tall with a light build, and wearing dark clothing.

He arrived and departed in a black SUV (similar to a Jeep), which contained a number of other passengers.

Anyone with information should call Minneapolis police on 612-692-TIPS (8477), and reference case number MP-18-068380.
