A missing 4-year-old boy was found in the front seat of a car Tuesday evening after he had been taken by a man known to his family.
The boy was reported missing from the backyard of a home on the 6100 block of Russell Avenue South around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, KSTP reports.
Shortly after the Minneapolis Police Department was notified of the missing child, the Minnesota State Patrol got a call of an erratic driver near Highway 62 and Interstate 494, the Star Tribune says.
The vehicle description matched both the kidnapping suspect and the erratic driver, reports note.
The state patrol pursued the vehicle northbound on I-494 at I-394, Minneapolis police said on its Facebook page.
A short chase ensued; the vehicle was reportedly swerving, the Star Tribune notes.
At I-494 and Highway 55, the driver tried to pass traffic on the right side, KSTP reports –but the vehicle ended up getting stuck in the mud, police said.
There was a fight between the suspect and officers before he was taken into custody, KARE 11 notes.
Police said charges are pending for the suspect, a 24-year-old man who took the child without custodial rights or permission.
The child, who wasn't injured, was reunited with his parent, police said.
