Police: Argument leads to shooting, car crash that kills 1

Disputing groups in two different cars fired shots while going on a chase through the streets of North Minneapolis, ending when both cars crashed and leaving one person dead.

The Minneapolis Police Department said the two groups got into an argument on 53rd Avenue North around 2 a.m. Thursday – one vehicle started chasing the group in the other, heading eastbound on 53rd. During that time shots were fired, police said.

Just before Logan Avenue, both cars crashed.

A male in one of the vehicles died at the scene, despite officers providing aid.

A female in the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, described as non-life threatening.

Other occupants, though it wasn't specificed how many, fled on foot before officers got to the scene.

Police officers started canvassing the area overnight to speak with possible witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send an anonymous tip to CRIMES (274637) and begin message with: TIP674. Providing information that leads to an arrest and conviction could be eligible for a cash reward.

The medical examiner will release the identity of the victim, along with a cause of death.

Thursday morning's incident comes after a non-fatal shooting in North Minneapolis over the weekend,
