Two men have been charged with burglary in St. Paul, where police say they used an obituary to target the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood home of a woman who had recently died, the Pioneer Press reports. One of the men also used Google to find images of homes "to determine whether or not is it a suitable target," the burglar's girlfriend say. Pieces of jewelry with sentimental value were among the items stolen.
It's not an uncommon practice among burglars to comb through death notices to mark a potential target, NBC News reported earlier this year.
Burglars are using the tactic recently near Stevens Point, Wis., the Stevens Point Journal reported.
