The Cottage Grove Police Department said in a press release the car had rolled over into a field shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, on Innovation Road in an area south of Highway 61 (see the map at right).

By the time officers responded, the car was "fully engulfed" in flames, the post says.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and a lone occupant was found dead inside. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will identify the remains.

According to police, the State Patrol provided a helicopter as part of the response, and the craft's thermal imaging shows nobody was ejected from the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.

"Thoughts with the family," the police department wrote. "While it was a tragedy, our responders did a great job and the frigid weather made this incident even much more difficult."
