A bystander captured a surreal scene on video Tuesday night as police cars raced onto a Moorhead golf course in pursuit of a fleeing suspect, KVLY/KXJB reports.

Police were chasing a pickup truck that police say was driven by a 33-year-old Bismarck man, wanted on several felony warrants, when the pickup tore across the Village Green Golf Course.

Video obtained by the stations courtesy of Terry Kragero and Ben Goehring shows three police vehicles on the golf course pursuing the truck, although police say they promptly called off the chase as it made its way across the course.

“We obviously have to weigh the need to apprehend the fugitive ... versus the safety of the public,” Moorhead police Sgt. Scott Kostohryz told Forum News Service.

Moorhead police picked up the pursuit a short time later when they spotted the pickup truck pulling onto Interstate 94, but that chase was called off, too, as it neared an active South Fargo construction zone, the news outlets reported.

Finally, the pickup was found in the West Acres Mall lot, which for the first time was locked down for an actual emergency, a mall spokeswoman told Forum.

With the help of a helicopter and North Dakota Bureau of Investigation agents, the suspect was found in a dumpster and arrested. He was being sought on drug-related counts and he now faces felony charges for fleeing police and criminal damage to property, Forum reports.
