A 17-year-old is in custody, being held on probable cause murder, for the shooting deaths of a man and baby in Minneapolis over the weekend.

The Minneapolis Police Department said Wednesday the teen was booked early in the morning into a juvenile detention center.

No more information will be available until the county attorney makes a decision on charges.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office Wednesday afternoon said they think the suspect has been certified as an adult previously – so if he ends up charged in this case, it is "highly likely" he will end up in adult court, not juvenile court.

The office is also asking to have until later Thursday to make a decision on charges.

Jayden Redden, 7 months old, and Gustav Christianson, 20, were in a parked vehicle in south Minneapolis Sunday when they were struck by gunfire. Police had said Christianson was the intended target.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said late Tuesday Redden died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Christianson died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The city has seen a spike in gunshot victims so far despite a drop in homicides compared to last year. You can read more about the rise in shootings here.

The original story from Oct. 10 is below.

Police continue to investigate a double shooting in south Minneapolis on Sunday, which left a family mourning the death of an 8-month-old boy.

The shooting happened in the area of 11th Ave S. and 26th St. E just before 1:30 p.m., Minneapolis police said in a news release Sunday evening, with a 2o-year-old man killed along with the child.

They were both found in the back seat of a parked vehicle, with the man pronounced dead at the scene and the child dying a short time later at Minneapolis Children's Hospital.

Minneapolis PD says the man was the intended target of the shooting and officers questioned "several people" to determine their involvement. No arrests had been as of Sunday evening.

This is the latest shooting in the city this year, which has seen a spike in gunshot victims so far despite a drop in homicides. You can read more about the rise in shootings here.

Both victims identified

The boy has been identified by the Star Tribune as Jayden Redden, who his aunt Jasmine Lindstrom said was born on Feb. 10. Another woman at the scene identified the dead man as her brother, Gustav D. Christianson.

Christianson was not the boy's father, the newspaper reports.

According to KSTP, the pair were in the rear of the car, Redden in a car seat, when a "burst of bullets" wiped out the back window.

Christianson's sister told the TV station that he had been in a gang "years ago," but was working to straighten out his life after serving a spell in prison for assault and a stint in a drug treatment program.
