Police dealing with public safety situation at hotel on U of M campus
Update 12:30 p.m. The University of Minnesota says there is no direct threat to the campus community, although the situation inside the Graduate Hotel is still ongoing.
The University Recreation and Wellness Center remains closed, as does Washington Avenue Parking ramp.
Update 9 a.m. U of Mpolice say that there are two other people in the room where they are currently involved in a standoff with another individual.
University police chief Matt Clark told media they have been talking with the suspect and are "hoping to resolve it fairly quickly."
Update 8 a.m. WCCO is reporting that police are engaged in a standoff with a suspect in a room at the Graduate Hotel.
The incident has apparently been ongoing for several hours.
The hotel itself has not been evacuated, but the U of M says that streets and sidewalks around the building are also closed.

Police have closed off roads near the University of Minnesota as they deal with a "public safety situation."
The University of Minnesota police department said on Twitter that East Bank roads surrounding the Graduate Hotel are closed as they respond to the emergency.
The Washington Avenue parking ramp and the Recreation and Wellness Center are also closed until further notice, the U of M says on its website.
No firm details have been released about what's happening, though MPR's Tim Nelson reports police are in communication with someone in a Graduate Hotel room.
It's unclear if they're armed.
