Police in the town of Baldwin, Wisconsin, continue to investigate a horrific discovery they made on Halloween: a father and his infant daughter dead inside a local apartment.

The two have been identified as 39-year-old Jeffrey Long and 14-week-old Aubree Long.

On Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to the residence on Cedar Street on a report about a male and infant having been shot. Upon arrival, they found the elder Long "deceased with a gunshot wound to his head" and the baby unresponsive, a Facebook update from the police department says. A gun was also found at the scene.

The infant died despite resuscitation efforts.

In a Thursday afternoon followup announcement, the department said medical examiners in Ramsey County, Minnesota, have determined Mr. Long's death to be a suicide.

The baby's cause of death is not known yet, but authorities say her body showed no signs of "external or internal trauma." Toxicological and microscopic testing is still pending.

Police haven't released any other details about the deaths or the surrounding circumstances. Their investigation is still ongoing.

Baldwin is in St. Croix County, which is about a half-hour drive from the Twin Cities.
