Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota will reopen to the public at 7 a.m. Tuesday as police continue to investigate a
" target="_blank">"security threat" on campus.
School officials announced Monday afternoon that the building, which has been closed since late Sunday night, would remain closed for the rest of the day.
The Star Tribune reports police were investigating a "suspicious package" that was discovered late Sunday night. The Minneapolis fire chief told KSTP that a "tent bag" showed no safety concerns when it was x-rayed and checked for radiation.
A nearby pedestrian bridge was also blocked off, WCCO radio's Al Schoch tweeted. However, traffic and the nearby Green Line are operating as normal, the Star Tribune says.
The Coffman Memorial Union has student services, the university bookstore, restaurants, game rooms and study areas for students.
The university is currently holding summer session classes, according to the academic calendar. The fall semester begins Sept. 8.
