A man suspected of carrying out another attack at an American mall has been shot dead by police in Houston.

The gunman opened fire at a strip mall in southwest Houston on Monday morning, leaving nine people injured, one of them critically, according to Houston police on Twitter.

The shooter is believed to be a lawyer, and police are investigating information that there had been issues between him and his law firm.

A bomb squad was called in to search the suspect's car, and inside they found more weapons.

FOX News reports that some of the victims were shot while inside their cars, while several were hit by glass fragments from shattered car windows.

It is the latest mall attack in the space of just over a week, following the stabbing attack at the Crossroads Center in St. Cloud, that authorities say is a potential act of terrorism, and a mass shooting in Burlington, Washington state, that left five people dead Friday night.
