Police searching for a 6-year-old St. Cloud boy missing since Thursday night have pulled his body from the Mississippi River.

The body of Hamza Elmi was found Friday morning by search teams in the Mississippi River, KARE 11 reports, about 10-15 feet from the shore.

Elmi, who is of Somali descent and has special needs, had been reported missing after last being seen in the 300 block of 8th Ave. N. at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to KSTP.

An area bordering the Mississippi River was cordoned off by police Friday morning after a pink scooter belonging to the boy was found near the river.

And St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson told reporters that the search was over at 11:45 a.m. after divers recovered a body from the river near to where the scooter was found, the St. Cloud Times reports.

The newspaper notes that many of the boy's family members were gathered near the search area awaiting news, and were spoken to by authorities after the body was found.

According to FOX 9, police say there's nothing suspicious about his disappearance, noting he had several "hiding spots" he would visit in the area.

A medical examiner will formally identify the body at a later time.
