Police are looking for a puppy thief who broke into a Twin Cities home

Penny was last seen wearing a pink collar.

It would be bad enough to come home and find that someone had broken into your house, but imagine how it would feel when you realized they took your dog too.

Eagan Police say a 10-week-old puppy was taken from an Eagan home during a burglary Tuesday night. It happened on the 3600 block of Ridgewood Drive.

Police believe the burglar entered the house through an open garage. They took the puppy, along with other valuables from inside the home.

Some of the stolen goods were found nearby, but the pup is still missing. She's a black and copper Shorkie named Penny. Penny was wearing a pink collar at the time she was taken.

Anyone with information should call the Eagan Police Department at 651-675-5700 or the 24-hour confidential tip line at 651-675-5799.

Pet theft

Nonprofit group PAWS says pet theft is on the rise, “as the economy fluctuates and the prospects of profiting from stealing a pet becomes more lucrative.”

The organization says purebred dogs are most likely to be stolen since they can often be worth a few thousand dollars.
