Police: Man intentionally set on fire by landlord

A 55-year-old man is being treated for burns after the victim's landlord set him on fire, reports say.

When first responders got to the Andover home Tuesday night they found a man with severe burns on his body, KARE 11 reports. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was reportedly in critical condition with burns covering 80 percent of his body, FOX 9 says.

Officials said when they arrived there was a small fire burning in the bedroom, which was quickly extinguished, KSTP notes.

The Star Tribune is reporting that the victim had been doused with an accelerant and purposely set on fire by his 29-year-old landlord, who is also his roommate.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect flee the scene at a high rate of speed, reports say.

Officials issued a statewide crime alert to find the suspect, who was believed to have access to a cabin near Orr, Minnesota. The suspect was later arrested near the cabin and booked into the St. Louis County jail, KARE 11 reports. He had minor burns on his face, FOX 9 says.

An Anoka County Sheriff's spokesman said deputies were sent to the home earlier that evening after reports of a dispute between a tenant and his landlord, but deputies left because no crime had been committed and the two agreed to separate for the evening, KARE 11 says.
