Police: Man shot after vigil for slain woman in St. Paul

Investigators say a man was shot Monday night in St. Paul about a block from where a vigil had just ended for 20-year-old Naressa Turner, who was killed Sunday. Turner's mother at the vigil had pleaded for peace.

Investigators say a shooting Monday night in St. Paul left one man in the hospital just an hour after a vigil took place for a 20-year-old woman who was killed in that area over the weekend, according to police, WCCO reports.

The man was taken to Regions Hospital and he was conscious and breathing, WCCO says. It is not yet clear if the shooting could be connected to the weekend slaying of Naressa Turner. She was an aspiring rapper and the mother of a young child, the Pioneer Press reports. She was killed while sitting in a vehicle in a Dayton's Bluff alley behind a church Sunday afternoon. Emotions were high as family and friends expressed anger about the killing, the newspaper reported.

Fox 9 reported that Turner's mother made a plea for peace at the vigil: "I just want to know, I want to tell everybody: Make this be the last death," said Odessa Turner. "Let's get together for our kids. Let's save them from these streets."
