The Hennepin County Sheriff said in a statement the Medina Police Department received a call about a person at the Ling Inn Motel, off Highway 55 in Medina, at 12.30 p.m. Thursday.

Shots were fired when they arrived at the motel to find a man armed with a knife.

The extent of the man's injuries are not yet known, police say, but he has been taken to a hospital in the area.

Six different police agencies attended the scene, with one police officer sustaining injuries in the incident. However, the officer did not require hospital treatment.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's office said on Twitter there would be no further updates until Friday at the earliest.
