In a press release, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office says the officer began pursuing the motorcycle at around 3 a.m. on Eden Prairie Road.

The "brief" pursuit ended at North Lund Road, the release says.

The officer reported firing his weapon, and the adult male motorcyclist sustained an arm injury, according to the sheriff's office. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Star Tribune reports the sheriff's office says investigators are looking into a report the firearm was accidentally discharged, but could not confirm that's what happened.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

It's unclear at this point what led to the pursuit or shooting.
