Police: Officers shot armed man in Twin Cities park

Authorities said the man ignored orders to drop the gun.

Police in Crystal were involved in a shooting Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a man with a gun near the frisbee golf area of Bassett Creek Park at 8:54 a.m., a news release says. After repeatedly telling the man to drop his gun, officers fired, Crystal Police Chief Stephanie Revering said at a news conference Wednesday.

The man was taken to the hospital and is in surgery, but his condition is not known, Revering said. Investigators did recover a handgun at the scene.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is on site and leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Revering says 10 to 12 other agencies responded. No other information has been released.

According to the Washington Post's fatal force database, 382 people have been killed by police so far this year, including four in Minnesota.
