A missing 5-year-old Belle Plaine boy was found safe in Owatonna on Sunday afternoon, a day after he was reportedly taken by his mother during a court-ordered visitation, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Nichole May, 29, had a court order to visit her 5-year-old son Nolen May-Schmitz Saturday afternoon, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Once there, the two left in her blue Pontiac Grand Prix, WCCO reports.
The BCA issued a Crime Alert Saturday night after the two went missing. Nolen's father, who lives in Sand Creek Township, has custody of the boy.
The pair were found in a vehicle Sunday afternoon, police said. May, who lives in Montgomery, Minn., was in custody and officials were arranging to return the boy to his father, said Chris Weldon, Emergency Management and Communications Director for Scott County.
“While this entire situation has been frightening for so many people, we’re relieved that the immediate crisis has been resolved without further conflict," said Scott County Chief Deputy Dean Opatz, according to WCCO.
