A 29-year-old St. Paul man has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Minneapolis' Seven Corners.

Farhan Omar Hersi is accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old Abdullahi Said Awil in the parking lot outside of Bullwinkle's Saloon in the early hours of Aug. 31.

The criminal complaint says Hersi – a member of the St. Paul Pistol Boyz gang – was with a group of people, including the victim, at the time of the shooting.

The medical examiner said Awil died of multiple gunshot wound, calling his death a homicide.

Hersi is charged with second-degree murder, and is expected to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said in a news release

The original story from Aug. 31 is below.

Police seek information after man found dead in Seven Corners area of Minneapolis

A man was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in the Seven Corners area of Minneapolis early Thursday.

Police responded to a shots-fired call around 3:13 a.m. on the 1400 block of Washington Avenue South, which is near Bullwinkle's Saloon and the University of Minnesota’s West Bank, a news release says.

When they arrived, police found the man's body, with officials noting it looked like he was the victim of a shooting.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office is doing an autopsy, and when that's done it will release his name and cause of death.

Police searched the area looking for evidence and witnesses, but did not release any additional information about what may have happened or a description of a suspect.

No one is in custody.

Investigators are hoping to talk to anyone who may have seen or heard anything that could be related to the case.
