The mother of Mark Henderson, 19, says her grief has been compounded by the fact that police still have not released the body, so she cannot lay him to rest, Fox 9 reports.

Henderson was one of a number of hostages held inside the Red Roof Inn in Woodbury during a police standoff Sept. 1. Police shot the unarmed Henderson, mistaking him for a suspect.

In most criminal investigations, the bodies of suspects or victims typically are released to family after an autopsy, Fox 9 reports. But the case is complicated by the fact that this was an officer-involved shooting, the station says.

Neighbors of the Red Roof Inn say it is a problem-plagued property and want it shut down.

A 19-year-old man police shot and killed in a standoff at a Woodbury motel early Friday was one of the hostages who escaped from the alleged gunman at the motel, the Star Tribune reports. According to police, Mark Eric Henderson was shot by officers as he emerged from the motel room, walked toward them and did not comply with their commands.
