Police: Woman shoots husband in sauna, then her ex disappears
There is a new wrinkle in the case of a Cloquet, Minn., woman who has been charged with attempted murder, accused of shooting her husband in a sauna. Investigators now are seeking her ex-husband John Bemis, 37, of Cloquet, for questioning – but he has disappeared.
Police say John Bemis, 37, of Cloquet, hasn't been seen since Monday, the day after his ex-wife, Marie Majerle, was arrested, WDIO reports. His family reported him missing Wednesday.
Investigators say Marie Majerle, 36, is accused of going to the Cloquet home of her husband, Richard Alan Majerle, 38, Sunday and spending a few hours there in the wee hours of the morning, the Pine Journal reported. Investigators say she asked him to start the sauna at about 5 a.m., and he agreed, the newspaper reported. A few minutes later she confronted him in the sauna with a .22 rifle, and shot him, investigators say.
He was hospitalized in serious condition earlier this week, the Pine Journal reported.
Investigators say Richard and Marie Majerle were either separated or in the process of being divorced and had exchanged text messages Saturday night about their minor children, the newspaper reports. Their home was in foreclosure and scheduled to be sold on Tuesday, WDIO reported.
Bemis is wanted for questioning in relation to the case. Police say he is 5-feet-11 and 180 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He has a 2005 red GMC Extended Cab Sierra pickup and a 2009 red Kawasaki Enduro motorcycle. They ask anyone with information to call the Cloquet Police Department at 218-879-1247.
