Popular deli's 'Closed' sign has customers worried – but it's only temporary

Fear not, food lovers, a popular Minneapolis sandwich and deli store is NOT closing.

The sight of a solitary "Sorry, we're closed" sign in the window of Caffrey's Deli & Subs over the weekend gave rise to fears that its closure was a permanent one.

What's more, calls made to the eatery – on the corner of Lyndale and Lake in south Minneapolis – have been met with "busy" signals over the past few days.

But BringMeTheNews spoke with the deli's owner, Pete Caffrey, who clarified the sign's ambiguity by confirming he would be reopening at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

He said he had to shut down for a few days to do some cleaning and maintenance on the property.

He added it was nice to see that people had reacted to what they thought was the store's closure with disappointment, saying: "We take it as a compliment."

Our colleagues at GO96.3 said the sub store is a bit of an institution in the LynLake/Uptown area of Minneapolis, with its "diverse menu and late night delivery" setting it apart from the competition.

"There isn't a person living in Uptown that hasn't had a post-bar close sandwich delivered," they added.
