A popular Uptown bar has suddenly and surprisingly closed its doors for good. According to messages on its social media accounts, Bar Abilene has closed.

Additionally, a sign was posted on the bar's front door that read, "Old Cowboys never die, they just keep moving on."

The Star Tribune reports the note thanked its customers, employees and vendors, but did not state a reason for the closure.

The bar, located at 1300 Lagoon Avenue S., is owned by Sam and Sylvia Kaplan. In addition to their involvement in Democratic politics, the Kaplans have been quite involved in restaurants and the arts.

According to WCCO, the bar known for its Tex-Mex, tapas and tequilas, had been open for more than 15 years.
