Popular Uptown Mpls restaurant to close its Calhoun Square location

A popular eatery in Uptown Minneapolis's Calhoun Square is not part of the property owner's future plans for the site.

In an email to food site Heavy Table, Republic co-owner Matty O’Reilly said the firm – which the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal identifies as the Ackerberg Group – would be "taking back" the restaurant's space.

This is despite a "yearlong discussion" that had taken place between the two parties, he added.

O'Reilly told BringMeTheNews that he does not know what plans the company has for the space, but says Republic wishes them "the best luck in the future."

He confirmed that the restaurant's final day of operation will be Oct. 11.

All is not lost for Republic's admirers, however.

The original Seven Corners location in the West Bank area of Minneapolis will stay open, while O'Reilly and co-owner Rick Guntzel continue to operate Red River Kitchen food trucks and have a "project" at the Twin Cities airport in the works, the Business Journal says.
