Preservationists aim to save Peavey Plaza

The city's planning department says Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis is unsafe, inaccessible and too expensive to maintain, and officials want to replace it with a newly designed park they say will better suit the city's needs. Architects unveiled their vision for the aging park along Nicollet Mall -- adding more water elements, video screens, concession stands and bathrooms. The renovation will cost up to $10 million. Officials say the redesign will be paid for with private donations.
