Prettner Solon goes from governor's office to Port of Duluth-Superior

Yvonne Prettner Solon is heading back to her old stomping grounds.

The 69-year-old, who spent one term serving as Gov. Mark Dayton's lieutenant governor, was appointed to the Duluth Seaway Port Authority board of commissioners Monday, the Duluth News Tribune reports.

Prettner Solon has been there before – the University of Minnesota Duluth alum was on the board from 1990-1994, KDAL notes. WDIO says her term goes until 2021.

The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is a state-run agency created in 1955, and is tasked with keeping the Port of Duluth-Superior – which handles 38 million short tons of cargo and nearly 1,000 vessels each year – operating smoothly.

When Prettner Solon starts the job on Feb. 14, she will be the only woman on the seven-member board, replacing Cal Larson.

She has floated another possibility however, saying last fall she would consider a bid to be Duluth's mayor.

Prettner Solon announced in 2014 she would not join Dayton as lieutenant governor in his re-election campaign. Dayton’s second-term running mate, Tina Smith, now serves as her successor.

Her current position with the Seaway Port Authority is an appointment from Dayton.
