Add this to the seemingly endless number of reasons why it truly sucks that Prince died.

According to Maya Washington, a photographer Prince befriended in his later years, the Purple One was in talks with Netflix about a reality show set at Paisley Park.

Now reality shows are, by and large, pretty execrable, but giving fans a glimpse behind the scenes of one of music's biggest enigmas would have been a fantastic show.

However, Prince was having misgivings according to Washington, who was one of several of Prince's friends who told stories about him to GQ this week.

Here's what she said:

He was supposed to do something with Netflix, a reality show on Paisley Park. He's, "Why don't you help me?" I'm, "I'd love to, but you'd have to be in it." And he's, "No, no, no, I'm not in it." I'm, "Why not? You're so funny—why don't you want anyone to see your sense of humor?" And he would shut it down: "Maya, I can't be funny. I have to save the world."

There's a whole trove of interesting stories about Prince in the GQ piece, here's what else we learned from it.

  • He liked when people made caption memes using his face.
  • He conceived the lyrics, music and arrangement of Sing O' The Times  during a three-and-a-half hour flight from Minneapolis to Los Angeles.
  • He gave Gwen Stefani the idea to go solo after No Doubt while they were listening to Jennifer Lopez in a limousine.
  • He once had problems parallel parking.
  • Prophecies, the Third World Order, "Big Brother," topics Prince liked reading about.
  • Van Jones ranks his sense of humor up there with great modern black comedians, like Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle.
