Prosecutors seek more time in Steger Trevino case, family joins search for Matula
As the search for Mandy Matula--with hundreds of volunteers Saturday--continues, the family of Kira Steger Trevino's family has vowed to join the efforts, KARE 11 reports.
According to the station, the family joined volunteers near Waconia and Victoria to look for Matula, the 24-year-old from Eden Prairie, who was last seen May 1.
KSTP-TV says the Stegers joined the search in Waconia, while other volunteers fanned out as far as St. Cloud.
Eden Prairie police are coordinating with St. Louis and Stearns counties to search areas of the Mississippi River, according to Fox 9.
Meanwhile, KARE also reports that Ramsey County prosecutors are asking a judge to extend a deadline after the body of Steger Trevino was recovered from the Mississippi River Thursday.
In a motion of continuance filed Thursday afternoon, the station reports, prosecutors reported that an autopsy on Steger Trevino revealed numerous wounds consistent with a violent death, including a head wound, broken finger, bruising inside her upper lip and lacerations to her liver.
Prosecutors also noted additional evidence that needs to be matched to other scenes and discoveries regarding defendant Jeffery Trevino, stemming from efforts to hide his wife's body and evidence of the crime.
