Puppy who was hit by train dies after second surgery

The 1-year-old Labrador mix who survived being hit by a train Sunday has died following complications with his second surgery.

Doctors believe a blood clot formed in Chase's brain, KARE 11 and WCCO report.

Chase suffered some serious injuries after being hit by a train and pinned to the tracks, including a nearly severed right foot, a fractured hip and skin near his groin was removed.

He underwent surgery at BluePearl Veterinary in Blaine Monday to repair some of his injuries, but died Tuesday night following complications from another surgery, reports say.

Chase was out for a walk with his owner, Mark Rogers, near the Fridley rail lines when he was hit by the train. Rogers told WCCO he let Chase off the leash while he picked up some litter and then he heard Chase barking – that's when he saw his beloved pup under a moving train.

A fund set up on Frankie's Friends to raise money for the pooch's veterinary bills reached $4,000 by Wednesday morning.

KARE 11 says the remainder of the funds that were raised will go to help families throughout Minnesota who can't afford veterinary care for their pets.
