Possible sighting prompts Tuesday morning search for Ty Hoffman at Blaine airport

The search for wanted murder suspect Lyle “Ty” Hoffman was rekindled at the Anoka County Airport Tuesday, just hours after authorities left the site empty-handed the prior evening. A possible sighting of Hoffman led to the renewed search, and Blaine police restated he should be considered armed and dangerous. Hoffman is charged in the death of prominent businessman Kelly Phillips and police believe he may have also robbed a bank in Blaine over the weekend.

All-day kindergarten kicks off for all Minnesota students

As the school year begins in every district, almost 60,000 Minnesota kindergartners will be in class all day. Last year the state Legislature approved $134 million to pay for the full-day kindergarten option for every school district. Until now, the all day option was something parents had to pay for. Research shows achievement increases with the longer day.

Police chief decapitates family’s pet chicken that violated city ordinance

An Atwater, Minnesota, woman has filed a complaint against the city's police chief after he killed her son's pet chicken. The woman acknowledges she violated the city's ordinance against backyard fowl, but says the police chief went too far when he went to her property and clubbed and decapitated the red hen with a shovel.
