Hockey is best when played outside. The NHL knows this and that's why they started playing the Winter Classic in 2008. But it would really help if it wasn't raining during the game like it's supposed to today between the Blackhawks and Blues at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

The game is scheduled to begin at noon and there's a chance for showers all day, according to Weather.com.

A Winter Classic has never been postponed and that probably won't happen today, but there is a chance the game could be delayed or even moved indoors.

"If the game is tied after two periods and conditions are unplayable, a shootout will be held at the United Center before the Feb. 26 game," according to Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times.

It's highly unlikely, according to Lazerus, but if they can't complete two periods today they'll try again tomorrow. If they can't get the game in today or tomorrow, they would move the game inside to St. Louis' Scottrade Center.

Sunday's outdoor game in Toronto was delayed 30 minutes when sunshine created a dangerous glare on the ice and the 2011 Winter Classic had a seven-hour weather delay. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says today's game will be played through pretty much anything but heavy rain.

Minnesota has yet to host a Winter Classic.
