Kate Upton is a super model, but she wasn't super nice on Twitter after her boyfriend Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers didn't win the Cy Young Award on Wednesday.

The award is given to the pitcher who receives the most votes. This year it went to Boston Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello ... even though he didn't receive any first-place votes.

Verlander got 14 votes for first place, but ultimately came in second place. Upton wasn't happy so she dropped a nasty series of tweets directed at the MLB writers who decide the winner.

She's got a pretty good point.

Verlander led American League Cy Young candidates in games started, strikeouts, WHIP, batting average against, innings and wins above replacement. On top of that he had the lowest run support among candidates, while Porcello had the best run support.

Should baseball writers vote?

Buster Olney of ESPN thinks it's time the Baseball Writers' Association of America stops owning the awards.

His reason: Simple "Journalism 101," as he put it.

"Reporters should not be creating news; they should aggressively steer away from any conflicts of interest, and voting for awards and honors is a clear conflict of interest," Olney wrote.

Sportswriters and broadcasters also vote for season awards in the NFL, NBA and NHL.
