A hand recount will being Wednesday morning for two legislative races in Minnesota.
Officials in Douglas County will begin counting 21,288 ballots for House District 8B between Republican Rep. Mary Franson and Democratic challenger Bob Cunniff.
Franson leads by 11 votes after ballots were mistakenly cast in the wrong district, forcing the canvassing board to throw out 35 ballots last week. The original count put Franson ahead by just one vote.
South of the metro, a manual recount of more than 41,000 ballots cast in Senate District 20 will decide whether former Democratic state senator Kevin Dahle keeps his 78-ballot lead over Republican Mike Dudley. The district covers much of Le Sueur County along with parts of Rice and Scott counties.
Results from both recounts are due back by Dec. 4.
The state Canvassing Board certified election results Tuesday. The election is officially the largest in state history with nearly 3 million ballots cast.
Secretary of State Mark Ritchie is looking to boost voter turnout even more. Ritchie said Tuesday he would support legislative efforts to expand voting ahead of election day.
