Recycling holiday lights made easy

If you're putting up new energy-efficient holiday lights this year, you now have a place to take your old ones. MPR News reports The Recycling Association of Minnesota has a plan to make dropping off old lights as easy as possible.

Hundreds of neighborhood hardware stores will take them, as well as other businesses. The RAM website has a complete list.

It says the program hires more than 200 people with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state to dismantle and re-use every part of the light strands.

The Associated Press reports RAM says the copper, glass and plastic found in older lights don't belong in landfills.

Recycle your holiday cheer

The Recycling Association of Minnesota announced a statewide holiday light recycling program starting Nov. 15. Minnesotans can drop off old or broken holiday lights at Ace Hardware and other participating locations throughout the holiday season.
