Red Wing didn't win a $500,000 prize to revitalize its downtown.
The southeastern Minnesota city was named one of five finalists in the Small Business Revolution contest, and with one day left of online voting it was in first place, but failed to take home the winning prize.
Bristol Borough, Pennsylvania, was named the winner of the $500,000, which will be used to help small businesses and make improvements in the downtown area. The winning city will also be featured on season two of the Main Street series.
Prior to the big reveal on Wednesday, Downtown Main Street Red Wing said "no matter the outcome, we've already won," noting the community is "stronger, more collaborative and full of pride."
The other finalists in the contest were: Georgetown, South Carolina; Kingsburg, California; and North Adams, Massachusetts.
The contest is in its second year. Last year, Wabash, Indiana, won.
Red Wing hosted a a party at the Sheldon Theatre Wednesday afternoon to watch the big reveal, and planned to have an after party at Liberty’s for a cheers to the city, regardless if it won or lost the contest.
