Reggie Lynch announced today that he's dropped his appeal to fight a suspension from the Gophers men's basketball team and expulsion from the University of Minnesota.

It means he's done at the U, both as a student and as an athlete.

But Lynch is defending himself regarding the multiple sexual assault allegations against him that got him in trouble in the first place.

“I did not commit any of the acts I’m accused of,” Lynch said at a press conference Thursday, according to the Star Tribune. “In today’s climate people automatically assume you’re guilty.”

Lynch's initial suspension was the result of two separate sexual assault allegations, one stemming from an incident on April 7, 2016 and another three weeks later.

In all, Lynch has been accused of three sexual assaults. The first came during his freshman season, when he was arrested in connection with a sexual assault report, but ultimately not charged with a crime.

The U's Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (EOAA) investigated the first allegation and deemed Lynch responsible for the assault.

His announcement Thursday came hours before a scheduled appeals hearing regarding the assaults. Lynch's attorney said they wouldn't attend the hearing because they felt the appeals panel was biased, creating a lose-lose scenario for Lynch, KSTP reports

The Gophers were 13-3 with Lynch on the court and have won just one game since he was benched Jan. 3.
