KSTP-TV reports that the Stillwater Prison is on lockdown this morning.
The station reports that the Department of Corrections has confirmed that all prison visitations have been canceled, and security operations are ongoing.
John Schadl, Communications Director with the Department of Corrections, tells KSTP-TV that the lockdown is not the result of a fight or a disturbance. However, Schadl did not provide any additional information. Schadl says more information will be made available once security operations are complete.
The Pioneer Press reports that the last full-prison lockdown in Stillwater was during Minnesota's government shutdown in 2011.
Schadl tells the PiPress the St. Cloud prison was locked down in fall 2010 to control a "fight type incident," but the Stillwater lockdown is not "an incident of that magnitude."
The Stillwater Prison is Minnesota's largest "close" Level 4 security facility. Level 5 is maximum security.
It currently has 1,613 inmates, reports KSTP-TV.
