Surly Brewing will be closing its Brewer's Table restaurant later this summer.

Surly founder Omar Ansari and Brewer's Table executive chef Jorge Guzman confirmed in a statement to GoMN the fine-dining restaurant will serve its last meal on Aug. 5.

"We achieved the goals we set for the industry-leading restaurant concept around food and beer pairings. We are focused on continuous innovation and as we close the doors of the Brewer’s Table we look forward to the endless opportunities this brings to reinvent the space," their statement said.

Brewer's Table is taking reservations for the final weeks before it closes. More information will be posted to Surly's website.

The earlier version of the story published Wednesday morning is below.

The latest casualty to the Minneapolis fine dining scene is the Surly Brewers' Table. The Star Tribune reports it will close down in early August as head chef Jorge Guzman's departs.

The restaurant, on the upper level of Surly's multi-million dollar "destination brewery" in northeast Minneapolis, has won many admirers since opening just over two years ago, featuring a tasting menu that pairs high-quality small plates with matching beers.

But Surly owner Omar Ansari told the paper "it feels like it's time for a change for Surly" after accomplishing the aim of "raising the bar with food and beer pairings."

Nonetheless, it is the latest casualty in a growing list of high-end dining experiences that have closed in recent years, with La Belle Vie, Vincent, Piccolo, Saffron, Birdie and Brasserie Zentral among those shutting their doors.

And the Brewer's Table is closing even though it has been ranked among the best food the Twin Cities has to offer, featuring in Mpls St. Paul Mag's 50 Best Restaurants 2017. It was also named one of Food & Wine Magazine's 10 best new restaurants for 2016.

Guzman meanwhile was nominated in the Best Chef: Midwest category in this year's prestigious James Beard Awards.

The Mexican-born Guzman has been at Surly since August 2014, overseeing the menu not only for the Brewer's Table but also the popular Beer Hall and Scheid Hall, according to his bio.

Prior to this, he worked in the kitchens of Tejas, Corner Table and Solera, where he was the executive chef, having previously plied his trade in Chicago and Charleston.
