Highway 55 reopens after 1 killed in multivehicle crash

One person was killed in a multivehicle crash on Highway 55 just north of Interstate 494 in Mendota Heights early Friday, metro media report. FOX 9 reports that it was a 52-year-old Farmington, Minnesota man who died.

Westbound lanes of Highway 55 were closed for about three hours while the accident scene was investigated and cleared, the Pioneer Press reports.

At least two people were hurt in the 6 a.m. crash, and one had to be extricated from a vehicle, KSTP reports.

The Star Tribune reports it was a head-on crash, in which an eastbound vehicle went over the centerline and hit a westbound vehicle. A 53-year-old Bloomington man was taken to Regions Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, WCCO reports.
