2-year-old killed in N. Minneapolis shooting, another child injured


A toddler was killed and a 15-month-old was injured in a shooting in North Minneapolis Friday afternoon, police said at a news conference.

Police closed Lowry Avenue North at Penn Avenue North in Minneapolis for about two hours, starting around noon Friday, to investigate an incident, the Minneapolis Police Department tweeted.

Police confirmed a 2-year-old child was killed in a shooting, and the 15-month-old suffered injuries, but is expected to survive.


The children had been taken to nearby North Memorial Hospital, police said in a news release.The 2-year-old died at the hospital.

Police say at this point, they believe the shots came from two individuals who knew each other.

There is crime scene tape at the hospital, cordoning off a van that has two carseats inside, reports say.

Police have eight investigators working on the case, are going over video from the area, and are using a K-9 to search for more evidence.
