The children had been taken to nearby North Memorial Hospital, police said in a news release. The 2-year-old died at the hospital.

Police say at this point, they believe the shots came from two individuals who knew each other.

There is crime scene tape at the hospital, cordoning off a van that has two carseats inside, reports say.

Police have eight investigators working on the case, are going over video from the area, and are using a K-9 to search for more evidence.
