Reports: Grand Forks man crashes car, bites police officer

Author:

A Grand Forks man has been arrested after he reportedly crashed into a ditch and bit a police officer.

According to WDAY, someone called the Fargo police to report a person speeding excessively – about 90 mph – around 8 p.m. Friday. The driver was also accused of swerving into oncoming traffic and crashing into a ditch near the Hector International Airport.

When police caught up with the man – identified as David Fitzpatrick, 45 – he became aggressive, Valley News Live says.

The station says officers ordered the suspect to get on the ground, but Fitzpatrick would not comply so the officers eventually used a Taser on him.

When police tried to put handcuffs on him, WDAY says Fitzpatrick bit one of the officers. The station notes that it's believed the official was bit in the arm and treated for minor injuries.

The Grand Forks Herald says the 45-year-old is being held in North Dakota's Cass County Jail.

According to the jail's inmate roster, Fitzpatrick faces charges of assaulting an officer, driving under the influence, refusing a DUI test, preventing arrest and reckless endangerment.
