Retailers scramble to lure last-minute shoppers

Retailers are doing whatever they can to draw in last-minute shoppers as they plan for one more big pre-Christmas weekend, KARE 11 reports.

Big sales are being offered, KARE says. Signs at Southdale Mall in Edina tout discounts of 50, 60 and 70 percent off, the station says. Toys-R-Us is opening its stores for 88 straight hours until Christmas Eve and Macy's will be open 48 straight hours, KARE says.

Nationwide, retail sales forecasts have been trimmed a bit, with analysts citing soft traffic, fiscal cliff concerns and a lack of must-have items that spark buying sprees, Investors Business Daily reports.

Analysts now expect December sales at stores open at least a year to rise 4 percent vs. a year earlier, down from the 4.2 percent forecast at the start of the month, the publication says.
