Rochester man charged with felony for mistakenly shooting granddaughter

The Olmsted County attorney has filed a felony charge against the Rochester man who shot his granddaughter after mistaking her for an intruder.

WCCO reports 58-year-old Stanley Wilkinson is charged with intentional discharge of a firearm under circumstances that endanger the safety of another.

Wilkinson critically injured his 16-year-old granddaughter in last month's shooting. The girl, who lived with her grandparents, had left the house without their knowledge. Wilkinson shot her as she tried to re-enter the home.

A press release from the county attorney says Wilkinson's first court appearance will be on Feb. 25.
