Rochester mayor draws attention after shedding 60 pounds

Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede has lost 60 pounds – down from a high of 295 – and people are noticing.

"I must have been really fat for people to have noticed this," the 73-year-old mayor tells KAAL in Rochester.

Brede said he began losing the weight in November with the help of the Medifast meal replacement program. He told KAAL he eats five times a day with smaller portions. He said he misses some of his old favorites, including pizza and popcorn.

He cut out late-night snacks and gave up soda, but he said the toughest part of the program is drinking eight glasses of water a day.
