Rosedale Center's getting bigger and more like the North Shore

Rosedale Center started its two-year renovation that will make shopping there an experience, inspired by North Shore trails and forests.

Rosedale Center in Roseville is amidst its $76 million makeover.

At least that's how much Minneapolis/Saint Paul Business Journal previously reported the renovations would cost.

The mall kicked off the start of its two-year renovation period on Monday, according to a Facebook post.

And if Rosedale Center is your mall of choice, there's good news: it will be in full operation throughout the whole thing.

What's in store?

Rosedale Center is currently 1,149,639 square feet, according to a news release about the project.

The expansion will add a new anchor store – a 125,000-square-foot, two-level Von Maur department store. That's expected to open in 2018.

It'll also add 21,000 square feet of new shops within a new two-level concourse that will connect the existing center to Von Maur.

New stores will be announced in the coming months.

"This project will bring state-of-the art convenience and provide a fresh, new environment for all of our guests,” Rosedale Center General Manager Scott Michaelis said in a statement. “The goal is to make it natural, refreshing, inviting and comfortable ... a first-class experience for shoppers.”

What does that mean?

Well, the mall's about to get a little more North Shore woodsy.

The news release says the new designs are inspired by the "regional spirit of the 'North.'" It will be "infused with warm wood accents and linear lines," to be a little like North Shore trails and forests.

Michaelis tells the Pioneer Press that the goal is to bring people – who are doing a lot of their shopping online – back into malls.

“The goal of this entire project is to … inspire our shoppers and give them an experience that they can’t get online … an experience they can only have here,” the general manager tells the paper.

Other additions

Rosedale has already been under some construction.

The mall recently added a new parking garage. It's located on the northeast side of the mall, and the news release says it will be ready in time for the 2016 holiday shopping season.
